Summary
Bandcamp Mentors is an initiative developed during a semester-long project for my master’s program, focused on designing for social change in the music industry. The core challenge addressed was the mental health struggles faced by emerging bands and musicians, who often lack the necessary tools and resources to navigate their careers.
Key Goals:
Integrate with Bandcamp: Seamlessly incorporate the mentorship program into the existing Bandcamp platform, ensuring musicians can easily access mentorship, resources, and support directly within the ecosystem they already use to distribute their music.
Provide Essential Resources: Create a platform where new and emerging musicians can access tools that help them manage their careers and mental health simultaneously.
Foster Community Support: Build a mentor network that connects experienced industry professionals with up-and-coming bands, offering guidance and advice to help them thrive in a competitive landscape.
Why Bandcamp.com
Why a Mentorship Program
Bandcamp's direct-to-fan model empowers independent artists by allowing them to sell music and merchandise directly to fans. This fosters closer artist-supporter relationships, making it an ideal environment for mentorship. The platform's emphasis on new music discovery aligns well with the goals of a mentorship program for developing artists.
